ZEBRACOUGARS, or Zealous Endurance Builders Radically Advancing Competence Of Ultimate Goals And Running Strength, is the newest and most outrageous club to form at CHS. Spearheaded by CHS senior Sam Haddix, ZEBRACOUGARS promises to revitalize and reenergize our school spirit.
“Essentially we’re fighting student apathy at its core,” Haddix says. “We are creating waterfalls in the otherwise lethargic stream of daily routine.
ZEBRACOUGARS evolved out of a combination of several other clubs Haddix had been trying to start, including an Extreme Kite Flying League and a CHS running club. He was having trouble getting people excited about these concepts so he decided to form a super-group that would allow for unlimited possibilities.

Haddix explained what inspired him to create ZEBRACOUGARS by comparing CHS to a carpenter’s workshop. “This baby is fully loaded with super-sonic nails and laser-guided hammers,” Haddix said. “This is a place where you could build anything from a bookshelf to a rocket ship.
“The problem at Community is that too many people are worried about what color their bookshelf is going to be, and not enough people are worried about what kind of jet fuel their rocket ship is going to have. Well see, that’s why we need the ZEBRACOUGARS. We need more rocket ships at the school.”

The Hero League is dedicated to community service and making the school a better place. Haddix hopes to give community service a new “cool” twist that will attract more students. “Lately, a lot of people are scared of the words ‘community service,’ so I just call it ‘awesomeness,’” he said.
The Agility League is dedicated to athletic endeavors. The Extreme Kite Flying League is based off of the book Kite Runner, and involves kites battling with broken glass glued to the strings. The Asphalt Avengers is a running club for those who enjoy jogging.
One element to ZEBRACOUGARS that makes it so appealing is the badges that are offered to members who perform extraordinary tasks. If you can do three push-ups you earn the “Built Like a Buck Badge” and for joining the club you automatically earn the “Striking Senorita” or “Handsome Devil Award.”
With Jason McKnight as a sponsor and general support from the CHS faculty, ZEBRACOUGARS has the potential to make a real difference in the school while being an entertaining and fulfilling organization to participate in.
“A lot of kids will enjoy it, because it will be fun,” CHS counselor John Boshoven said. “[Haddix] is a fun guy, he’s an energetic, fun kind of a guy who seems to have too much time on his hands.”
