Tios Restaurant Review

There is a lack of authentic Mexican restaurants in the Ann Arbor area. Tios
is a tasty, quick-service restaurant that focuses on quality. Everything on
their menu is made from scratch daily. While Tios is popular in Ann Arbor,
it is not well known statewide.

One item that certainly does not get enough recognition is their # 4 X-Hot
sauce. In a 1997 best hot sauce contest, it placed first nationally out of
300 other contestants. A lot of hot sauces overpower the food that you put
it on, but not their #4 X-Hot sauce. It doesn’t just add heat to the food,
it also adds flavor. On the first Sunday of every month Tios offers free
sampling of their hot sauces, so I highly suggest you try some.

According to Harriet Seaver; the co-owner of Tios, “the Mexican Pizza is
overlooked.” However, this pizza is absolutely delicious. It has a fried
tortilla crust, and the beans make the taste of the pizza extraordinarily
spectacular. It is defiantly well worth the $10.99 it costs.

“The best is their cheese enchiladas,” stated Katie Wright, a Pioneer High
School student. It is extremely cheesy with several different cheeses. “This
dish is so delicious,” Andy Fox, a regular at Tios said. The Cheesy
Enchilada can be ordered with sauces ranging from mild to X-hot. This is
definitely a cheese-lovers dish.

“The bean burritos are the best, but they’re so expensive,” says Miles
Shaffer. Fox also praises the bean burritos and nachos.

Last, but certainly not least, is a dish that is also often overlooked,
which is the Taco Salad. Laura Leech stated; “The Taco Salad is absolutely
delicious”. The unique homemade dressing makes this dish special. The
dressing is Seaver’s secret recipe. It is very sweet, yet tangy. Without the
dressing, the salad could be considered simple.

“It’s not cheap enough to go everyday, but it’s good for every other week,”
says Leech. The prices at Tios are not that of a typical fast food
restaurant. The owners refuse to pay their workers minimum wage. This means
that the food costs more. But the quality of the food is worth the high
prices.

Tios Mexican Restaurant is a quiet, friendly place. The restaurant is small,
and gives you a homey feel when you’re there. As soon as you walk in, you
feel like you’re in a Mexican restaurant. There are bottles of different
homemade hot sauces lining shelves on the walls. And the tablecloths and
layout make it feel like a place you want to stay, instead of just eat and
go. The only problem with staying is that they don’t have a public restroom.
Tios has great food and is an excellent place to eat. If you have the means
and some time, it’s a worth-while place to eat.
